Deadpool & Wolverine Betting Preview

Deadpool & Wolverine Betting Preview

Two of Marvel’s greatest characters have come together to show that two antiheroes are better than one. Deadpool, the original movie released in 2016, captivated people with the off-beat humour that the comic book character was known for. The sequel came out two years later and was just as good as the first. Creating a successful third instalment of the Deadpool franchise was a tall order. Even Ryan Reynolds said that before they secured Hugh Jackman, he was struggling to come up with a compelling storyline to complete the popular trilogy.

Fortunately, Reynolds did manage to bring Jackman on board for the project. Jackman’s last appearance on screen as Wolverine was in Logan in 2017. This was the concluding movie in the Wolverine-centred three-part X-Men series that started with X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009 and then released The Wolverine in 2013.

Wolverine has arguably the biggest fanbase of the X-Men characters—to the point where he had his own comic book series that lasted for 15 years. His brooding nature and defiant temper combined with superhuman strength, iconic retractable claws and reinforced skeletal structure make him a force to be reckoned with—and a contrast for the facetious Deadpool.

Deadpool began as a mutant supervillain in the Marvel world before becoming a type of relentlessly wisecracking antihero with ambiguous morals. In film, he appears first in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Reynolds plays the character who engages in a wild battle with Wolverine (Hugh Jackman).

Before Deadpool became a mutant he was in the military, but he was eventually discharged and began working as a hired gun, taking on the identity of Wade Wilson. Facing a terminal cancer diagnosis, he agreed to be part of the Weapon X government program, where he was cured of the disease and given regenerative healing powers.

Combining these two antiheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is massive. This is expected to be the biggest movie of the year and should break previous records for R-rated films. The early screening has yielded positive reviews from critics, who’ve described it as “the shot in the arm the MCU so desperately needed.”

For those who want to beef up the viewing experience with some bets, we have a page dedicated to all of the Deadpool & Wolverine betting markets. See if your film instincts come through on the big screen by betting on this hotly-anticipated release. It hits theatres in North America on Friday, July 26.

Opening Weekend Box Office Figures

Deadpool & Wolverine is expected to have the biggest opening weekend of the summer—and possibly the year. After a re-organization of Disney’s movie release calendar, Deadpool & Wolverine will be the only Marvel release of 2024, with the exception of the adjacent Spider Man Universe releases. The release dates for Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts were pushed to 2025, so this is it.

The highest-grossing Opening Weekend (domestic) movie so far in 2024 goes to the animated Pixar film, Inside Out 2, which brought in $154.2 million in June. Being an R-rated movie, Deadpool & Wolverine won’t have the same market reach as a Pixar film. In 2016, the original Deadpool broke the record for the highest-grossing Opening Weekend of any R-rated film, when they raked in $132.4 million in February.

The Deadpool/Wolverine combo, however, is expected to smash those numbers. The current total posted in our Box Office Special page is $180 million. ‘Over’ betting is the underdog at -115, and ‘under’ is the favourite at -125.

How Many Times Will Deadpool Break the 4th Wall?

In cinema, the “fourth wall” is the invisible division between the characters and audience. It maintains a comfortable distance between the story and its viewers. Breaking the fourth wall is when characters turn to the camera and address the audience straight on. Think of old Bugs Bunny episodes where Bugs speaks to the camera about the animators or other characters.

There aren’t many Marvel comic-based movies that utilize this technique, but Deadpool is very much one of them. In the comic series, he first recognizes his own fictionality in Deadpool #33, when he’s making light of being tortured by a scientist.

The movie versions adapt his signature fourth wall breaks throughout the plot. You can bet on how many times he’ll do it in Deadpool & Wolverine in our sportsbook; the total is pegged at 6.5 times, with the over paying -150, and the under paying +110.

Kill Count Match Bet

Who is more ruthless: Wolverine or Deadpool? While most Marvel superheroes don’t stoop to killing, there’s the odd exception to that code of conduct. Deadpool is infamous for his brutality and has killed an immense number of people, both as a soldier and as a superhuman. While his comic book character has likely killed between 10,000 and 15,000 people, the actual tally through the three Deadpool movies (Deadpool, Deadpool: No Good Deed, and Deadpool 2) is up to 162.

As for Wolverine, he’s no peach. After receiving mutant powers, his rage led him to kill the groundskeeper, who ended up being his biological father—oops. His drive to kill was channeled into a career in the military throughout much of the 20th century, thanks to his decelerated aging powers. After Wolverine had surgery as part of Weapon X, he escaped, leaving many dead guards in his wake. It is estimated that Wolverine has killed between 15,000 and 25,000 in his life, however, his kill count generated through his appearance in Marvel movies is 89.

A betting market for each character’s kill count in Deadpool & Wolverine is open, and Deadpool is a major (-500) favourite over Wolverine (+300). Bets are settled using stats from the listofdeaths.fandom.com website.

Who Will Say F**k the Most?

Did we mention Deadpool & Wolverine is an R-rated movie? Strong bloody violence paired with vulgar language earned the rating through MPAA, and it’s no surprise considering the ratings of the Deadpool series.

Known for being mouthy, Deadpool drops f-bombs like nobody’s business. In Deadpool, he says “f*ck” 84 times, and in Deadpool 2, he bests that number, saying it 86 times. That level of profanity is unique to his character.

That being said, Wolverine is also known to spew profanities on screen. In X-Men: First Class, when Erik Lehnsherr and Charles Xavier approach him at a bar to introduce themselves, he tells them to “to go f*ck yourself.” Hugh Jackman accepted the cameo offer purely because he’d be the only one in the movie saying “f*ck.”

There’s no doubt that Deadpool and Wolverine will bring out the vulgarity in each other. You can bet on who will say f*ck the most in the movie. Deadpool is the favourite (-500) in this one, but Wolverine offers great value as a +300 swearing underdog.

To Play Lady Deadpool

A new character was teased in the trailer and is being dubbed Lady Deadpool. Donning a get-up that’s the exact same as Deadpool’s, along with a blond ponytail, this character could be the comic series female counterpart to Deadpool. The character from the comic series is from an alternate universe in a dystopian America where she must battle the evil character Awareness.

The director has been tight-lipped about the cameo, which has led to rumours swirling around the internet. Ryan Reynold’s wife, Blake Lively, is the centre of the rumours and at the top of the Lady Deadpool betting board at +115. Other candidates include Ryan Reynolds (+150), Taylor Swift (+300), Daniel Radcliffe (+1200), Andrew Garfield (+2000), Emma Stone (+2000) and Scarlett Johansson (+2000).

Worldwide Gross After Six Months

To truly appreciate the success of a movie, you need to look beyond what happens during Opening Weekend. Six months is usually long enough for a movie to reach different tiers of theatres and make it to international markets.

This long-term bet lets you wager on how much Deadpool & Wolverine will gross worldwide six months after release. You can bet over or under $1.1 billion; the payout is the same for both the over and under (-120). Bets will be resolved on January 26, 2025, according to the data on boxofficemojo.com.

The original Deadpool grossed $781 million in total in worldwide box office, not including the home market. The Wolverine grossed $416 million in worldwide box office, while Logan grossed even more four years later, at $614 million.

Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score on August 23rd 2024

Rotten Tomatoes has become the people’s authority on film criticism. The meta site has been kind to the Deadpool franchise, giving the original a 90% Audience Score and the sequel 85%. It has likewise given Logan a solid 90% Audience Score, but The Wolverine didn’t command quite the same appreciation, scoring just 69% with the audience due to its “usual cartoonish antics.”

Wager on how well Deadpool & Wolverine will do on the site. You can bet the Audience Score will be over (-250) or under (+170) 84%.
